Nitinat River Spruce & Maple Forest
Took some time over the holidays to explore an area of old-growth forest in the Nitinat Lake region. It turned out to be filled with giant, beautiful Sitka spruce trees, moss covered big-leaf maples, and herds of Roosevelt elk. A truly prehistoric looking forest that feels like a trip back in time just a few hours from Victoria here on Vancouver Island.

Island Tides - Defend Our Coast
Defend Our Coast Rally
On October 22, 2012, nearly 4,000 citizens took to grounds of the Victoria Parliament Buildings for the Defend Our Coast rally against the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline. The pipeline, if approved, would see raw bitumen pumped from the Alberta Tar Sands to BC's coast posing the serious risk of a devastating oil spill from super tankers plying the rough, rocky coast. In light of the global climate crisis and the need to shift towards strong green economies, our provincial and federal governments must begin showing leadership for a sustainable future.
